Clever and consistent jazz with an air of curiosity, exploration and mystery. I'd say my favorite thing about it is the gentle but provocative contrast between the airy, pastoral quality of the production as well as some of the instrumentation, and the denser, more bustling and social qualities of the lyrics and Victor's vocal delivery. A beguiling romance between city and country.

So,so pleased and gratified to see Henry's Pi Recordings on BC! He is, without exception, one of the most visionary and extraordinary composers of the 20th/21st Century, in my humble view...I have listened to him for decades (the Mosaic Box Set is an essential experience) and his current band, Zooid is very important, I think (but then, he doesn't need my approbation; I listen with old ears)...if you don't know his work then listen to anything/everything you can get your hands on... His musical acumen astounds me...this new album is no exception...recommended; body and soul...

Mary Halvorson is a genius composer and guitarist who has developed her own musical language, and with Code Girl she has incorporated poetry into that language. Incredible compositions and lyricism (each track is a different kind of poem). Halvorson's playing is as great as usual, and all the other members of the band sound great. Robert Wyatt's singing in particular works extremely well in the tracks he's featured. Highly, highly recommend.
